Century Regional Detention Center
Lynwood, California
Century Regional Detention Center, known to many as CRDF, is located in Lynwood, California. It is the largest womens jail in the United States., housing over 2,400 women. Although CRDF is identified as a county jail, women are housed here for the length of their trial which may last anywhere from a few hours to 10+ years. Setting The Captives Free Ministry currently has found its home at CRDF. To date, thirteen chaplains serve alongside Senior Protestant Chaplain Evans at CRDF on a weekly basis. Monthly, over 100 volunteers serve in different capacities in both the English and Spanish ministries in the detention facility. Setting The Captives Free Ministry seeks to preach the Gospel, the message of the cross, to the women of CRDF, to call them to repentance and to bring them to salvation. STCF Ministry disciples the women, teaches the women how to stay rooted and grounded in the Word, and live out their Christianity on a daily basis behind the jail walls. We pray that the Lord continue to provide servants while the doors are still wide open to share the Gospel! “For the harvest is plentiful but the harvesters are few.” (Luke 10:2)
How You Can Get Involved
PRAY
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16b)
- Pray for the women of CRDF, that many would come to salvation.
- Pray for the servants of CRDF, that they would be bold and unashamed to share the Gospel in season and out of season
- Pray for favor behind the walls of CRDF, that God would pour out His blessing abundantly and allow the Gospel to be preached to every soul
- Pray for the servants of CRDF, that they would remain humble, attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and bring glory to God's name in all situations
- Pray that God would provide humble and willing servants to come alongside and serve at CRDF
- Pray for the deputies, employees, and visitors to CRDF, that all would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ
- Pray that in all things, in every situation, that God would receive all praise, honor, and glory
Serve
"I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it." (1 Corinthians 9:22b-23)

All volunteers must complete the following process in order to gain access to the Los Angeles County jail facilities:
- Prospective volunteers will first need to complete and submit all the steps for the Setting the Captives Free Ministry (see below)
- Upon Chaplain approval of the Setting the Captives Free Ministry application, prospective volunteers will attend a supervised, one-day visitation event at CRDF. This hands-on experience allows prospective volunteers to accurately evaluate service opportunities and gain insight for prayer regarding prison ministry. Prior to the visitation, all volunteers must pass a simple background check (performed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department). Background check processing can take up to two weeks. Once cleared, entrance will be scheduled through an approved chaplain.
- Volunteers moving to the next step are required to be sponsored by a chaplain from an LASD jail facility (eight county jails) of their choice. A chaplain will help facilitate this process.
- Volunteers will then attend an orientation with the LASD at the Sherman Block building in Monterey Park , followed by an orientation and training with a Senior Chaplain. Successful completion of the orientations will place the prospective volunteer on the “approved volunteer list” for entrance into the Los Angeles County Jail Facilities.
- Volunteers will serve under, and be escorted by, a chaplain as mandated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please submit ALL of the following information to: Email it all to [email protected] or mail it to Rayna Keen, PO Box 1216, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91729.

GIVE
"Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’"

SUPPORT
"Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God." (Philippians 4:16-18)
